Proverbs 9

In the book of James, we discover that our tongue acts like the rudder of a ship. It guides and steers many situations and relationships in our lives. Here in Proverbs 9, we see just how powerful our speech can be. Words can tear down just as easily as they can build up. In verse 5, we see that our words can be like healthy food, nourishing the soul of another. The right words can actually help heal a broken spirit. We see in verse 6 that right words can bring life. What a privilege it is to share the life-giving words of Jesus to a lost soul.

In verses 7-9, we see that our words can instruct the ignorant and help restore those who have sinned. But, knowing when and what to say doesn’t come easy to most of us. Many times, we wish we could take back something that was said or we replay over and over in our minds how we would have said it differently. With such a powerful gift at our disposal, we must learn to use our speech wisely.  In verse 10, we are reminded that wise speech begins at the feet of Jesus.

So the question is simply this, what are some practical ways that you can gain more wisdom from God this week?

How can you apply that wisdom to your daily conversations?
