Proverbs 14
My Way or His Way
Decisions…decisions…decisions. Our lives are full of decisions. We make decisions of some kind every day of our lives. We decide what we are going to have for dinner; we decide if we are going to work today; we decide what we are going to wear…Decisions, decisions, decisions. We cannot live without making decisions. This is what Proverbs 14:12 is talking to us about. You cannot “live” without making the right decision. You can live for today, making the wrong decisions, but you cannot live forever, unless you make the right decision.
“THERE IS A WAY THAT SEEMS RIGHT TO A MAN, BUT IN THE END IT LEADS TO DEATH” Proverbs 14:12 (NIV)
Some decisions SEEM right:
A. They are attractive. They promise us something good at the end, even if we have to do something bad in the beginning.
B. They are flattering. We think it is the right decision because we made it, it is our decision and it must be right.
C. They are influential. People will agree with our decision and are even willing to follow our decision. We think, if other people follow, it must be right.
Some decisions APPEAR right:
They only “look” right. But many times things are not what they appear to be:
A. Thin ice will appear safe until it is tried.
B. Crystal clear water appears safe to drink, unless it is contaminated.
C. An immodest outfit will appear to be appropriate, if everyone is wearing it.
D. The bright colored ‘frogs’ of the Amazon appear innocent and safe, until you touch their poisonous skin.
Of all of the decisions you will make in life, there is one that will impact you for the rest of your life. This is the decision to follow Christ. Joshua expressed this well...
“BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD” Joshua 24:15
If you seek his guidance in all your decisions you will come to realize that "HIS WAY IS THE RIGHT WAY." Because he can see the end from the beginning…He is the only safe guide on the road to eternal life.
THINK ABOUT THIS
- Is there something in your life today that is more attractive to you than spending time with God?
- Are you doing something that brings you accolades from men, but breaks God’s heart?
- Are you pointing people around you to “HIS WAY” rather than “YOUR WAY”?
